From Indigo - What's the Shmita? (Sabbatical) - Academy of Burlesque

Dear Community,

Have you ever heard of a Shmita?  A Shmita is a Jewish tradition – it’s year-long Sabbatical practice that occurs on the last year of a seven-year cycle. And we’ve been in one since September of 2021.

I’ve been taking an informal personal Sabbatical for most of 2022 while I refocused my priorities. Which is kind of cool, that it was inline with Jewish tradition.

But, I’ve realized I need a FORMAL Sabbatical to really get clear on what my path is, as well as that of the Academy going forward. So I’m taking a formal break from running all aspects of the Academy through 2023.

“WHERE WILL I LEARN BURLESQUE?” you ask?  Good question. I’ve made a list for you with a TON of suggestions right HERE.

“HOW WILL I GET SUPPORT AS A BURLESQUE EDUCATOR?” If you are seeking 1:1 business coaching to grow your Burlesque School, feel free to reach out to me via email at headmistress at academyofburlesque dot com. While The Teachers’ Lounge was an amazing project and a great success, it is ALSO on Sabbatical for the next year, so there are no group coaching programs at the moment.

“WHAT IF I WANT TO FIND AN EVENT?”  There is a great Facebook page called “See Seattle Burlesque and Cabaret” that you can join to find cool event listings and network with performers and producers.

In other words, I have decided to make official what has been informal for most of 2022: we are officially on a break.

I remain available to support and encourage those who wish to go forward in the service of the art of Burlesque. Blessings, Tassels, and Sparkles to you all!
